2008 - Wild Reads - Anatomy of a Float
The Independence Dad Parade Theme was "Proudly We Serve" and the Summer Reading Theme was "Wild Reads" The brainstorming session resulted in a surprise offer of a gorilla suit and we were off and running! Despite a volunteer offering to don the suit, we decided July temperatures would not be safe. Every one met and pooled all their materials, bamboo poles to make a cage, blow-up animals to supplement the jungle idea. This was the first year we had a pick-up truck to tow the trailer which expanded our available space. More kibitzing yielded the fun idea of keeping the gorilla free in the pick-up and putting the wild kids in the cage as the "captive audience" enjoying the story time. We tied back to the parade theme by including a sign that the Beebe has been proudly serving Wakefield for over 150 years.
